TO THE CLASS OF 1960
Let's drift back 50 years in time
And see if Miss Pollock would agree that the words still rhyme
Many great classes passed thru those hallowed halls
The things they learned opened doors to many calls
Let's review a few and maybe have some fun
And then remember that our tasks aren't nearly done
The Black Raiders of old came from many schools
But our Halloween colors didn't mold any fools
Back in those days the boys were the athletes and the gals
cheered them on
It took way too many years for the girls' athletics to spawn
Music, parades, and plays with no plot
Certainly weren't equal to what all the boys got
Fortunately education changed over periods of time
Maybe it was Biology and Chemistry finally letting genders combine
You'll notice so far this epic mentions no living names
And no scores are listed from all those great games
Let's pause a moment and try to bring into sight
Those who have passed and are not with us tonight
There are 36 not with us and that makes us very sad
Life can be so fleeting and sometimes seems so bad
As the names are read, please give them careful thought
Their lives passed much too quickly and time just can't be bought
(NAMES READ)
Did you remember them all - can you recall that certain look?
Be sure to take time - they're all in your Arrow yearbook
We all have great memories, and a few we'd like to forget
But share them again and don't be inclined to fret
After class you could further your education in Peters Park
at the Topper
And listen endlessly to a song by the Big Bopper
Alas, the Topper is with us no more
So we will never know what that secret was in the song "Behind
the Green Door"
With a date on a hot summer night there could never be
A better item in your pocket than a tiny - church key
Dinah Shore was telling us "See the USA in a Chevrolet"
While Jerry Fisher had already seen the USA in his Henry J
And little did we know that Sandra Beckman was a mover and shaker
as she cruised quietly through life in her sleek Studebaker
Laugh at the days and years that have flown by
Seems as we get older, it's far easier just to cry
Why is that I ask you, wiping a tear from my eye
Maybe it's honesty, maturity, the things we cannot buy
East High is in our memory and you all played an important part
Our teachers and administrators were right there at the start
So enjoy this class reunion - any person's more important than
a thing
Reflect on the good stuff that these many friends do bring
It was a time of other nights and other days
That have seen us go our separate ways
The building is gone and many changes have taken place
But the Black Raiders are still known for their style and their grace
And now on this autumn day of our lives may we discover a moment
of truth
As the Class of 1960 celebrates the summer of their youth
